In October, we celebrated the birthdays of our social services in the town of Kyustendil. Our family-type homes marked 14 years of providing 24-hour care for young people with disabilities, while our Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration celebrated 9 years of supporting young people with intellectual disabilities from the community and their families.
Throughout this time, our team has remained committed to ensuring a dignified life for people with intellectual disabilities and developing their independence skills.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Kyustendil, Eng. Ognyan Atanasov, partners from the Directorate of Social Assistance, and members of our team from both the Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration and our central office in Sofia. The mayor wished our team to continue to be so dedicated and creative. His message was provoked by the improvised stage made from a recycled bed frame.
The celebration was filled with laughter, dancing, and singing in the courtyard of our family homes. Danche sang “Happy Birthday” at least three times in English, while Ilia and Stefan recited poems. Mitko, not content to remain in the audience, took his chair and went on stage. As the festivities concluded, we all joined together for a lively limbo and rachenitsa dance.
A week later young people, parents, and our team came together to celebrate the 9th birthday of our Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration “Sineva”. The vibrant celebration was filled with favourite songs, energetic dances, fun games and a magical atmosphere.
Traditionally, the celebrations ended with delicious cake and gifts. The best part was seeing the young people relaxed and happy, surrounded by the warmth and comfort of the relationships they have built with their caregivers.
