On the last day of July, we grabbed our suitcases and set off for the long-awaited and desired sea holiday. It was an unforgettable experience for ten children from our family houses, and five of them saw the sea for the first time. It is hard to describe the joy in a child’s eyes when they first encounter the sand and waves. Emotions overflowed for them and us at the foundation – happy to be able to provide these moments for them.
The excitement started with the journey from Kazanlak to Burgas, as some of the children were boarding a train for the first time, and continued throughout the week we spent in Kiten. The children enjoyed playing carefree games at the beach and pool, learning to swim, riding a paddle boat, playing ball and collecting shells to take home as a fond seaside memory. Evening walks also became everyone’s favourite, and the shooting stars keeping us company further enhanced this experience.
Apart from the regular beach games, we organized additional activities and explored the resort town. All the kids had a great time in the curved mirror hall in the town centre. We also visited the monument of Stana Urdoviza and learned the local legend about her. At the town fair, the children tasted various treats, had fun on the fairground rides and bought interesting souvenirs. All together, we visited Kiten harbour, where the children discussed the boats for a long time. On the way back, we also visited the Burgas Sea Garden and the iconic bridge, where we enjoyed the beautiful `sea view.
The emotions that the children experienced during the sea camp will remain long in their thoughts, and they already dare to dream of the next adventure.
The project “Summer camp for disadvantaged children” is funded by PEPCO Bulgaria, within the PEPCOlandia program, implemented in partnership with the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation.
