The 17th Charity Ball of Cedar Foundation took place on 29 October at Hyatt Regency Sofia. More than 100 guests, business representatives, entrepreneurs, lawyers and people from the IT sector donated funds for quality care and therapeutic activities for children and adults living in the organization’s small group homes.
Over 120 thousand BGN were raised at the charity event. The funds will be used to improve the services that we provide for children and adults, to support the professional development of social workers and other specialists who work in our centers, as well as to provide long-term and sustainable care for children without parental care and young adults with severe intellectual and physical disabilities.
“For 17 years at Cedar Foundation, we have taken on the role of parents of children with a heavy and painful history. This role is extremely difficult because of all the trauma these children carry. But we do it with lots of dedication and along with all the questions and doubts, we continue to care and to support these children when they become adults. Because that’s what a good parent would do,” said the Foundation’s Executive Director Alexandrina Dimitrova in her opening speech.
The programme of the evening included a screening of a specially made film about the life of one of the young adults living in our small group homes. In a delicate way, the film, directed by Nadezhda Koseva and shot by the cameraman Kiril Prodanov, captures one day of Stani’s life, a young woman, whom we have been caring for in the past 12 years. Guests then took part in a paddle raiser – a fundraising activity where they were asked to donate at different levels to support various activities and therapies for the children carried out throughout the year.
The host of the event was Blagoy Boychev – actor and director, co-founder of Replika Theatre. The guests saw an excerpt from the newest dance performance entitled “Back” by the Derida Company, and enjoyed the music of Ilin Papazian – Ninio and his colleagues from The Groovers.
Thanks to the sponsors and partners of the event, all funds raised during the evening will be invested in the care of the children and adults living in our small group homes.
