International culinary competition for people with disabilities recruits participants

Cupi's Spoon will be held in Bulgaria for the 3rd year

For the third consecutive year, people with disabilities in Bulgaria will have the opportunity to participate in the international culinary competition “Cupi’s Spoon”, which will be held on March 25 in Sofia, in front of the Hilton Sofia.

The culinary competition aims to show that people with disabilities can successfully cope with everyday activities when given the opportunity and the necessary support.
Participants can enter the competition by choosing between two categories – “Dish” and “Cocktail”, registering via the entry form and viewing the video with guidelines here. All registrants will receive further information via email.

The winners of this round of the competition will have the opportunity to spend 7 days in Zagreb to improve their skills with the support of renowned chefs. There, they will compete in the final round of the competition, which will feature winners from all 31 countries.

Young people with intellectual disabilities supported by the Cedar Foundation will take part in the competition for the third consecutive year. In 2024 Stefcho, who lives in the foundation’s sheltered home, won first place for Bulgaria in the cooking category and reached the final of the competition in Zagreb. There he spent 8 days learning from professional chefs and then, together with all the participants, had the opportunity to visit the Vatican and meet the Pope.

We urge all people with disabilities who are interested to join this exciting experience. Not only will they build on their skills and have fun, but they will also show that disadvantaged people can achieve a lot and play a meaningful role in society. All information about the competition can be found on the entry form.

The “Cupi’s Spoon” project was developed by the UNUO association, which has been running culinary training for people with disabilities since 2009. Popular Croatian chef Vedran Habel and his wife Silvija Habel dedicate their efforts to this cause. So far, they have organised more than 1000 workshops for people with disabilities, and thanks to the skills they have acquired, many of the participants are now working full-time.
