Christmas is the most exciting time of the year in our small group homes. Everyone is busy in the pre-Christmas workshops, the house and yard light up with bright decorations and all the children and young adults are excited for Santa Claus’ arrival and the presents. The holidays bring joy and a sense of community and togetherness.
This year for our traditional Christmas campaign “Every donation matters” we aim to raise funds to replace the heating system in one of our small group homes in the town of Kyustendil.
Dana, Zlati, Desi and Vasilka live in an apartment in a block of flats in Kyustendil’s Gerena neighbourhood. The apartment is located on the 1st floor with a northern exposure and is quite cold. Until now an old air-conditioning was used during the winter months but the system is old and does not heat the entire place properly. A gas heating system will be more efficient and will make the apartment more cosy and pleasant as it will also reduce the electricity bills significantly.
Approximately 15,000 BGN are needed to build a new gas system.
In addition, we continue our efforts to raise funds for our program for Social Inclusion and Access to Cultural Activities for children deprived of parental care and children and young adults with disabilities. The project enables children to participate in various local cultural and sports initiatives, visit museums and exhibitions and become actively involved in the social life of their local communities. Earlier this summer we invited actors from the Kazanlak city theater to visit and perform puppet and play productions for the children and youths whose mobility does not allow them to be frequently transported outside their home. The plays were very well received so we plan to continue and extend the reach of the project to our centers in Kyustendil.
