For yet another year Saint Patrick’s Festival Ball supported the Cedar Foundation’s cause. The ball took place at the Hilton Sofia Hotel on March 16th, and brought together foreign and Bulgarian business leaders, diplomats and public figures.
The Ambassador of Ireland to Bulgaria Michael Forbes held an opening speech in which he welcomed the guests, expressed his gratitude to the Cedar Foundation for its dedication and encouraged everyone to support the cause.
The Executive Director of the Cedar Foundation Alexandrina Dimitrova thanked the guests of the event and the Irish community in Bulgaria for their long-term support over the years.
“We are currently providing individual care to over 100 children and young adults in our centers in Kyustendil and Kazanlak. Last year’s St. Patrick’s ball raised over 9 000 BGN for the Cedar Foundation’s cause, that were invested directly in social inclusion activities and development of our supported employment program for young adults with intellectual disabilities living in our centers. Over 90% of the people with disabilities in Bulgaria don’t have access to the labour market. The Cedar Foundation is trying to change this negative statistic. As a result of the work of our dedicated team, two more young adults with intellectual disabilities started working in a kindergarten in Kyustendil. Today they do not live in isolation but are an active part of society. We are proud of their achievements!
So thank you for being part of this success story and thank you once again for contributing, so that we have more stories to share with you!” – said Alexandrina Dimitrova in her speech.
The guests of the event had the opportunity to enjoy fine dining, live music and dancing, as well as to to get a little taste of Ireland in Bulgaria. The program included a charity auction of interesting items and experiences, hosted by the Irish Ambassador. Among the most interesting of the auction items were a painting of the Italian artist Albino Pitti and a voucher for a Hot Air Balloon Ride, kindly provided by Aeroact.
Towards the end of the evening guests of the event participated in a raffle with lots of prizes including flight tickets, vouchers for dinner, fitness and SPA, and a special basket of chocolates and wine.
The ball raised 6 700 BGN which will be directly invested in Cedar Foundation’s Small Group Homes and Center for Social Rehabilitation and Integration in the towns of Kyustendil and Kazanlak.
Sponsors of the event were Aeroact, Area52, Azon Media, Barbour, Hilton Sofia, Jameson, McCarthy’s, Music Wine Art House, NeedUs, Pernod Ricard, Platinum health club, Sofia Rentals and Vistra.
