The children and young adults from one of our family-type houses in Kazanlak took part in the Meet and Code initiative, organized by the National community centre “Osvobozhdenie-1884”, Sheinovo and ICT Centre, Kazanlak. The event is part of EU Code Week, a volunteer run “grass-roots movement which celebrates creating with code”. It takes place from the 7th to the 22nd of October and includes various coding events throughout Europe.
The initiative aims to help the adaptation of young people and imrove their digital literacy, giving them the opportunity to learn more about software development as a career choice. During the event programming was presented to our kids and young adults in unusual and interesting way and and gave them a different perspective about working with computers. They learned more about programming as a profession, and had the opportunity to get acquainted with Scratch, a programming language used to create interactive stories, games and animation.
Meet and Code week is realized thanks to SAP, Techsoup Europe and the German non-governmental organization Haus des Stiftens. In Bulgaria the initiative is managed by Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation. Nearly 1,500 children and young people will participate in different programming workshops in 19 Bulgarian cities.
