The St. Maria Luiza orphanage/hospital is home to children from the ages of 0 to 4 years old. It is situated just outside the historical town of Kazanlak. Every Saturday The Cedar Foundation volunteers visit the children, take them out of their cots and just simply play with them!

The orphanage is under staffed and as good as the staff is, it cannot manage to pay as much individual attention to the children as they deserve. Having our volunteers visit, albeit once a week, helps the staff, as well as being fun for the children. Being picked out of their cots for no other reason than just to be held and engaged with must be such a simple pleasure for the children.

In August 2008 volunteers from England will accomplish the project for renovating some parts of the children's hospital and gym of the Mir kindergarten. Some of the children from the hospital are integrated in this kindergarten.

Through kind donations from England The Cedar Foundation bought sterilizers for St. Maria Luiza. We have also donated gifts of clothes, and toys for the children.

At The Cedar Foundation’s fundraising charity auction in May 2006 Mark O’Sullivan presented the director of St. Maria Luiza funding of 15,000 leva in order to renovate the antiquated heating system of the orphanage. Through kind donations from Battle Baptist Church, East Sussex England and through the funds raised on the night of our charity auction the foundation was able to sponsor this much needed renovations project.
