Donation boxes

We’ve all seen donation boxes in various businesses asking for our change.  Why do so many charities use donation boxes?  The answer: because they work!

Obviously, it would be difficult to create professional looking donation boxes for you to place throughout the businesses of your town.  However, you can easily help The Cedar Foundation by creating your OWN donation boxes, and asking to place them in homes of your friends and of course, in your own home.

All you need is a shoe box, some scissors, some tape or glue, and you’ve got yourself a donation box.  Feel free to get creative with them and dress them up a bit, but don’t feel like you need to get too fancy.  But have some fun with it.  If you can, make a project out of creating donation boxes with kids you know.  They would love to do the project, and the boxes would be sure to have a unique and creative look.

Once you have a few boxes created, distribute them to the households of friends and family.  Ask them to put their spare change in every night and you will be amazed at how quickly the money accumulates.  Think of creative ways to use the donation boxes.  For example, anytime a family member is late for dinner, they owe some money to the box.

Place your Home Box somewhere convenient in your home – perhaps next to the front door, in your lounge or kitchen - anywhere that will prompt you, your family and friends to donate their spare coins.

You may want to use your Home Box to encourage family co-operation (whoever fails to make their bed donates some pocket money), entrepreneurship (a family member could bake a cake or make lemonade and ‘sell’ them to friends and visitors) or creativity (family members could put on concerts and sell tickets).

We will leave it up to your imagination – all we ask is that you, your family and friends donate whatever coins you can to help Cedar Foundation to build new homes for neglected children currently living in Bulgaria’s institutions.

There are tons of different ways you can make donation boxes work.  Just be sure to keep track of where you have placed your boxes and to collect the funds in them regularly.
